I shit you not

This will go down in the history books.
While cleaning the theatre last night, I bent over to pick up what I thought was a burnt piece of pizza or a brownie. But no, it was a piece of crap! Somebody pooped in the theatre. Who does that?! We have many theories, but nothing make sense. And i assure you, after much inspection by the entire staff, it was in fact pooh and not just a baby ruth. I offered to clean it up, stuff like that doesn't gross me out. But my dainty little girly boss was strangely excited about it. She picked it up (with a napkin) and showed it to everyone. Sorry guys, sometimes comedy gets dirty, and at 2am it was the funniest thing that could have happened.
Holy shit!

Tis the season

Spent my first St. Patrick's day in Chicago. People really go all out. I mean, I like the color green, but they have taken it to a new level. I'm sure you have heard that they dye the Chicago River green for the day, it is really green. I know I'm not the first person to say, but if they can dye it this green for one day, why can't they dye it blue for the other 364?
We didn't make it out too early, most bars opened at 9am but we slept in. We had a relatively long night. I worked and Brandon came to the late show. But the night did not end there, oh no. We walked most of the way home because it was so nice. Soon, however we both realized that neither one of us had a key to the apartment. I thought he had it and he thought I had it. So we called my roommate to ask her to unlock the door... she didn't answer. We get home knock on the door. No answer. Mind you its about 3am by this point. So I figure she is still out for the night. We reluctantly call a locksmith who charges us an arm, a leg and the promise of my first born to open our door. Mind you, he's making a lot of noise (and it is now 4:30am). He breaks open the door and we finally get in. Only to find out, Nina was in the apartment the whole time! She slept through us knocking and the locksmith breaking into the place! Yikes. I hope that anyone who wants to potentially rob us is not reading this. Oh, well. Shit happens, right? Thats an expensive lesson that I had to learn sometime.
So back to St. Patty's Day. We walked downtown, caught the tail end of the parade, saw the green river, did it all. We went to a nice little pub and grabbed some irish grub. I had to go back to work and Brandon came and saw the other late show. One of the managers cooked 13 pounds of corn beef for the staff. Great way to finish off the night. And yes, every beer we served was dyed green. Tis the season

would you be mine, could you be mine, won't you be my neighbor

So here's an interesting way to meet everyone in your building. Go door to door and ask for a plunger. Laugh if you will, but we were in a bit of a jam. . . no pun intended. Target, Jewel, and White Hen were flush out of plungers, so the next best option was going to our neighbors. Apparently, many people on our floor have not thought of a situation like this either because we didn't find a plunger until the sixth or seventh try. Now imagine if you will, explaining to a foreigner what a plunger is. Well that happened twice. Nothing humbles you like asking complete strangers for a plunger.
If you were wondering, we got the problem fixed and everything has been smooth sailing from then on.

M.I.Z. I Miss You

Spent 23 hours in Columbia, Missouri. It was quick, yet refreshing.
Brooke's wedding shower was this weekend. Yes, one of my friends is getting married. . .crazy, i know. It was great to see my old roommates and friends. I was afraid that when I moved away from Columbia I would miss them like crazy, and turns out I was right. Nothing's changed, I have some of the best friends in the world. They're funny, they're cool, they make me feel good about my self. They re-assured me that my hair did not look stupid (oh, yeah, did i mention that I cut my hair up to my ears and dyed it brown? When I'm ready, i will put a picture of the new doo on the blog,).
Basically It was an afternoon of wine and presents and friends and wine and fun and laughing and wine. Don't worry, we had a designated driver of course, and you're not going to believe who it was: BRANDON. Yeah. he was in Columbia too! He was setting up his housing situation for the fall semester at Mizzou. Turns out he is going to live in the brand new Sig-Ep house. He is stoked and so am I. Guess that means I'll be making a few more trip to Columbia, fine by me.
St. Patricks day is a big deal at Mizzou, especially among the Engineering school. Apparently St. Patrick was the patron saint of engineers. Mizzou has rich history of traditions, so the story goes that if you stand on the shamrock in front of the engineering school and kiss your loved one, you are destined to be married. Ok, so believe it if you will, but Brandon and I are here to say thank you to St. Patrick. (Dirk being a engineer and all.) If it weren't for you and your shalaylee, we may not be here. I'll drink to that.

stupid irony

Great news. I was cast in a commercial and it shot on wednesday. It was cool being with the other actors and pretending to be professional. I feel like I'm fooling everyone. It was a non-union shoot so it was smaller than most, I wouldn't have know the difference seeing as though this was my first. I played the part of a young newly wed who wanted to start a family with her new husband and needed a health insurance plan that will work for her. And my husband... was HOT. You will agree with me if it ever plays in your area. Its a test spot so I don't necessarily know when or where it will air, but I will keep you posted.
Now, define irony for me. It was a commercial for Humana One Health Insurance. I do not have my own health insurance so i asked, not completely seriously, but kind of, if instead of being paid, they could cover me for a year. The director of the shot had now control over that, bummer.

Somebody punched the baby

I promise it wasn't me. Though to be completely honest, it was nice to walk around with him and his bruised and bandaged face in the city at night. Nobody was about to mess with me!
It was so great to have Brandon visit. I miss him so much, he's my best friend. . and my baby brother. You may have noticed that there were no post for a few weeks. These last few weeks have been trying and tiresome, but still good. I just needed to get through that rough patch to enjoy this time that much more. Besides, it has warmed up a little in the city and that has made a world of difference (for clarification, warmer not warm. 25 degrees as opposed to -25. Hallelujah!)
Anywho, here is a fun little run down of what Brando and I did.
Snow storms delayed him from coming in until late Sunday night, boo. Even though it was late we were determined to hit the town. We went down to Rush street and got chicago deep dish at UNOs. Mmm mmm.
I had to work the next morning but Brandon, Nina and I went out to breakfast early in the morning. For the record Nina hates here job and her computer always poops out on her and creates problems. So since her computer was acting up and going to make her day even more difficult, we decided to atleast start the day out right, hopefully it helped.
Brandon is all grown up. he just found his way around the city all by himself. He even found his way all the way down to the museum of science and industry down in Hyde park and back by himself. He's totally figured out the public transportation, which is far ahead of some chicago natives. And i know he's an adult but i'm just psyched to see what a cool adult he is. Way to go him.
One more reason I love Chicago, on Mondays and Tuesdays during February admission to the aquarium and museums are free. So Brandon and I walked up to the aquarium and got to see the baby beluga! So Cool! I've been waiting to see it since this summer, the baby beluga, named Bella, was born in July. I have to admit though, the penguins were the most entertaining. Brandon and I had a running commentary of what we thought the penguins were saying. We were at the penguin exhibit until it closed. I love Brandon because i can be a total nerd with him and he's fine with it. Oh i miss that.
Next we headed to 10PIN, a bowling alley and bar in the House of Blues. I've been wanting to go there since we were at House of blues a couple of weeks ago. We checked it out and monday is Retro night, $2 games and specials. It was a blast, really hip. We ended up playing like 4 rounds. Turns out I'm good at bowling. Who knew. And how many places can you order a round of bowling and a round of s'mores?
The whole reason Brandon was here in the first place was to cash in on his Christmas present. He got tickets to the red Hot Chili Pepper from, uh. . santa. If you didn't already know this, brandon is the biggest RHCP fan out there. the said he wants to get a tattoo of Flea on his arm (he's not actually doing it, but you get the point, he's obsessed.) So we made our way out to Rosemont on Tuesday night via the Blue line (which was not as lightning fast as advertised). None-the-less, we got there and and witnessed an amazing performance! I mean, I always liked the Chili Peppers but getting to see them live proved just how talented they are, i see why Brandon looks up to them so much. So we took the same Blue LIne (aka Poo line) home.
So it was a whirlwind couple of days. He left the next morning after we sought out another fun place for breakfast. I realize i use the term "whirlwind" often in this blog, but that's pretty much the only way to describe my breif visits with friends or family. So i'm telling you right here and now, come, take your coat off, stay awhile.
